How To Make Magnesium Oil Spray
Magnesium is Vital for Your Health
Unless you have been living in a jungle for the past 20 years, you probably know how fantastic the mineral magnesium is for you. Your body uses it for over 300 processes. After water and food it may be the next most important nutrient for your body. If you want to be able to relax and have a good night’s sleep, you definitely need this mineral. Magnesium really could be considered a “miracle”. Award-winning researcher, Peter Gillham, author of The Miracle Nutrient, warns that “The lack of magnesium in the diet is responsible for thousands of common health disorders.” See our previous article on magnesium, Need a Better Sleep & More Energy? for more information. Magnesium is available in capsules, tablets, powder , spray (magnesium oil) or you can make your own magnesium oil spray.
Why Use Magnesium Oil Spray?
Magnesium oil can be sprayed on the body for quick assimilation. If you tend to get muscle cramps or spasms, spraying magnesium on the afflicted area can often relieve the situation almost immediately. This is especially handy in the middle of the night if you get a charlie horse. Spraying magnesium on the body can also help a woman who is having menstrual cramps. There are definitely times when a spray comes in handy. You can buy ready-made magnesium oil. It also comes in a sports version which is excellent for sore muscles, sprains, or spasms. Magnesium oil is also easy to make yourself using magnesium flakes.
How to Make Your Own Magnesium Oil Spray
Though there is no oil involved in making the spray, it is called a magnesium oil spray because when the magnesium flakes are mixed with water it has an oily texture. Before we get into the recipe, just a few cautionary notes:
1. Magnesium can have a tingly, almost burning or itching sensation. Do a small test area on your body and see how you feel. A reaction often indicates that your body is lacking in magnesium. Start with the areas that have more fat on them as they will usually be less sensitive. Tingling or itching should (but not always) decrease or go away after repeated use.
2. Do not use the spray after a shower (or shave). Magnesium oil also makes a great natural deodorant but do not use it for several hours if you have just shaved your underarms.
3. The spray will often leave a white film which can be wiped off after 10 minutes or so.
Magnesium Oil Spray Recipe
1. Measure out equal amounts of filtered or distilled water and magnesium flakes (i.e. 1/2 c water to 1/2 c magnesium flakes)
2. Bring water to a boil in a non-aluminum pan. Turn off heat.
3. Add magnesium flakes, stir until dissolved.
4. Optional – You can add a few drops of essential oils such as peppermint or eucalyptus. These oils are good for tense muscles, sprains, etc. 5. When the mixture has cooled, pour into a spray bottle. No refrigeration is necessary.
You can also add magnesium flakes directly to a bath for a nice relaxing soak.
