Organic Honey May Not Be So Organic
Glyphosates, the main ingredient in Monsanto’s toxic herbicide, Roundup, is showing up in organic honeys. Researchers from Boston University and Abraxis LLC tested an assortment of food items in Philadelphia grocery stores. A total of 80 different honeys were tested, 11 of which were organic. Significant amounts of glyphosates were found in 62% of the conventional honeys, and 45% of organic honeys. GM Apple Approved in USA
Last year we told you about a genetically altered apple, developed by a Canadian company, was pending approval with the FDA. The “Arctic Apple” was approved last week. The “Arctic Granny” (Granny Smith), and “Arctic Golden” (Golden Delicious), have been bred with an extra gene that shuts down the oxidation process. The Okanagan Specialty Fruits Inc. that developed the GMO apple claims that their apples are “unlikely to pose a plant pest risk” or have “a significant impact on human environment”. Heavy Metals Found in Top Brands of Chocolate
Uh oh, anything but finding out about this. My guilty pleasure has just become a lot less pleasurable. The timing of this news is quite interesting – a few days before Valentines, the biggest chocolate day of the year. As You Sow conducted extensive independent laboratory testing of 42 chocolate products for lead and cadmium. They found that 26 of the products contained unsafe levels according to the California safe harbor level for reproductive harm.
